Treatment

Type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is treated by regular injections of insulin as the body can no longer produce insulin.

Other things that may help are to stay physically active, eat a well-balanced diet containing a controlled amount of carbohydrates and to maintain a steady weight.

Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is usually treated initially with diet and exercise. However, as the resistance to insulin increases and/or insulin production decreases, oral medication and/or insulin may also be needed.

For further information please talk to your doctor, nurse, pharmacist or dietitian.
